Hanuman

Saw this Huge statue of Lord Hanuman (approximately 50 ft in height ) on the way to Devrayanadurga, could not stop my self from taking a photo, there were lot of electrical cables obstructing the view, had to climb a few rocks to get a clear view and i'm glad i did :)

Hanuman is also know by different names, Bajrang Bali (Sanskrit: Vajranga) which means body as strong as dimond, vayu Putra, Marut or Maruti Nandan which means son of wind. Hanuman is one of the most popular concepts of devotees of God in Hinduism and one of the most important personalities in the Indian epic Ramayana.

Hanuman was mischievous in his childhood, he used to tease the meditating sages in the forests by snatching their personal belongings and by disturbing their well-arranged articles of worship. Finding this unbearable the sages placed a mild curse on him by which he became unable to remember his own ability unless reminded by another person. Once assuming the sun to be a ripe mango he took flight to catch hold of it to eat and Lord Indra struck him with his thunderbolt (same as Greek god Zeus) knocking him unconscious, learning this Vayu (god of wind) went into seclusion taking the atmosphere with him, as the living beings began to be asphyxiated, Indra withdrew the effect of his thunderbolt and all god's blessed Hanuman with multiple boons and asked Vayu to bring back the atmosphere to normal.

It is said that Hanuman is supposed to have attributes that cannot be sung even for Infinity. However his 4 attributes that marked all of his conduct have been : Bal (Energy) Buddhi (Wisdom) Vidya (Art) Sheel (Decency).

Some of his famous feets are that he lead a army of monkeys to fight the demon king Ravana and when Lakshmana was severely wounded during the war against Ravana, Hanuman was sent to fetch the Sanjivani (a herb which has life restoring power) from mountain in himalayas he brought back the whole hill to battle field as he could not identify the Sanjivani herb

  28. Followed your link from Soaring Through The World... Interesting how many stories are similar between different mythologies. Hanuman reminds me of the Old Norse god Loki, and Lord Indra of the Old Norse god Thor. Loki was a "trickster" too and Thor in charge of thunder once threw his hammer=thunderbolt after Loki...
