Happy Diwali

Week 3 of 52
I decided to talk a walk in the neighborhood and shoot some photos for week 3 of project 52 and here are some photos shot during the walk.

Diwali is around the corner, for Hindu's Diwali is one of the most important festivals of the year. Its a festival of lights, triumph of light over darkness, triumph of good over evil. Streets are bursting with life and colors, everyone is shopping for the festival buying new cloths, lanterns and fireworks.

It's a tradition to light a lamp and hang colorful lanterns and you can find shops selling these colorful lanterns.

its flowers everywhere, its time for the flower vendors to cash in

Buddha Statue - The Golden Temple

Feels good to be back in the blogging world after a long break.  My personal life and work kept me really busy.  Thanks to all my friends who missed me and were worried that I disappeared without any notice.

Buddha Shakyamuni - The founderof Buddhism
This beautiful 60 ft statue of Buddha is in the alter of "The Golden Temple" in Bylakuppe.  Encryption near the statue reads "Buddha statue is made of copper, plated with gold. Inside the statue are scriptures relics of great beings, small clay mould stupas, and small statues, which symbolize the body, speech and mind of the Buddhas.  Seeing these statues, venerating them, circumambulating and making offerings to them generates faith, peace, wisdom, loving kindness and compassion in our minds and cleanses unwholesome thoughts and actions."
Buddha Shakyamuni

Statues of "Guru Padmasambhava" and "Buddha "Amitayus" is found on either side of "Buddha Shakyamuni" and they are 58ft each.

Band Tower, Hampi

Band Tower is on of the tall structures found within a large compound of Danaik's Enclusure in Hampi.  This structure dates back to 13th century and this is the only structure in Danaik's Enclusure which is still in good shape.  Its a two-storied hexagonal building with narrow stairways leading to the top. There is no clear information as to why this is called Band Tower, one of the localite told me that if we clap standing in the center of the ground floor of this building, sound is amplified and sounds like its from a band {it sure does because I tried it :)} but looks like this structure was a watch tower more than a band tower.

Another prominent structure in this enclosure is the Mosque (stone structure seen next to the band tower in the picture).  It is said that this Mosque was originally a temple, later converted to a mosque when muslims invaded Vijayanagara Empire.

(Converted the image to B&W and added texture just to get a feel of the bygone era.)

Young Indian's

I visited a nearby school to take few photos of Republic Day celebration.  It was amazing to watch little kids perform various drills, do march fast, hoist the National Flag and dance to patriotic songs. It brought back good memories of my school days.  Here are few candid shots for you enjoy.

Following are photos of nursery school kids dancing to a patriotic song.  These kids are too young to know or understand what Republic Day means but their performance and the expression on their face is priceless.
