St Philomenas church

Thought i'll post about one of my favorite place's to visit to mark my 50th post. I try not to miss visiting this beautiful cathedral when ever I'm in Mysore.

One of the famous landmark of Mysore is St Philomenas church, It is one of the oldest churches in India and also one of the biggest churches in South Asia. Its over 250 years old. Its designed by a frenchg man called Dally in a neo gothic style and draws inspiration from Cologne Cathedral in Germany. The floor plan of the cathedral is in the form of a cross. The long part of the cross is the 'nave', which is the congregation hall and can house upto 800 people. The two arms of the cross are the 'transepts'. The fourth part containing the altar and the choir is the 'crossing'

Interiors of the church is a piece of art initself, alter is made up of marble on which the statue of St. Philomena is placed and there is a beautiful catacomb below the alter which has a relic of a 3rd century St Philomena and a beautiful statue of her brought from france. There is also an idol of Christ lying in his sacred wounds. The main attraction of interiors of the church is the stained glass above the alter with painting depicting the birth of Jesus Christ, the Last Supper, the Crucifixion and the Resurrection.

The part of the church that is most attractive is the towers or spires which are 175 feet tall. There is a orphanage in the church campus and a school (st Mary's Higher Primary school).

Summer Clouds

This photo was shot in Srirangapatna from the bank of river Cauvery, we are heading towards summer and we are getting to see more clear blue sky like this one.  The hill seen here is called Karighatta (Black Hill) by the local people, it gets its name because of its dark coloration. There is a small temple on top of this hill.

Indian Peacock

The Indian peacock/peafowl,Pavo cristatus (Linnaeus), the national bird of India, is a colourful, swan-sized bird, with a fan-shaped crest of feathers, a white patch under the eye and a long, slender neck.

The peacock is widely found in the Indian sub-continent from the south and east of the Indus river, Jammu and Kashmir, east Assam, south Mizoram and the whole of the Indian peninsula. The peacock enjoys immense protection.
The Indian Peacock has iridescent blue-green plumage. The upper tail coverts on its back are elongated and ornate with an eye at the end of each feather. These are the Peacock's display feathers.

Hanuman

Saw this Huge statue of Lord Hanuman (approximately 50 ft in height ) on the way to Devrayanadurga, could not stop my self from taking a photo, there were lot of electrical cables obstructing the view, had to climb a few rocks to get a clear view and i'm glad i did :)

Hanuman is also know by different names, Bajrang Bali (Sanskrit: Vajranga) which means body as strong as dimond, vayu Putra, Marut or Maruti Nandan which means son of wind. Hanuman is one of the most popular concepts of devotees of God in Hinduism and one of the most important personalities in the Indian epic Ramayana.
